Pistachio nuts are dry fruits of a tree specie in the Anacardiaceae family. The fruit is a drupe which is a fruit with a large, central located single seed and the seed kernel is the edible portion. Once matured, the fruit's shell splits exposing the kernel which is then harvested and lightly salted and oven roasted in the shell. No insecticides or pesticides are used during the growing process and no preservatives or additives were used during the processing of the nuts.
